John W. Smart has twenty years experience in the areas of litigation, labor law, bankruptcy, Workers’ Compensation and commercial litigation.
He is a 1985 graduate of the Duquesne University School of Law. Before coming to the firm of Andrews & Price, Mr. Smart was a shareholder in the firm of Grogan, Graffam, McGinley & Lucchino in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition to his experience as a lawyer, Mr. Smart has served on the Board of Directors for the Steel Valley School District for ten years, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for three years and the Harry S. Tack Education Center for D. T. Watson for three years. He has also served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Carnegie Library of Homestead from 1988 to 2001. He has participated in various legal seminars on the topics of Worker’s Compensation and School Law.
Mr. Smart is admitted to practice before the state courts in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, all federal courts in the Western District, as well as the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He has appeared as trial counsel in Allegheny, Westmoreland, Butler, Washington and Cambria Counties. He has appeared regularly before the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and various administrative agencies such as the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board, the National Labor Relations Board, the Department of Public Welfare, the Social Security Administration and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.
